Boy Scout Camping

Eddie and I went boy scout camping this weekend. This was camping only for Webelos (fourth and fifth grade boys). Eddie got to do lots of new things, archery, sling shots, relay races, fire safety, and maps and compasses. He had a great time! By 8:30 last night he was begging me to go to bed!! I was ready too. This morning they had a church service and awards. The boys in Eddies den won 5th place in the maps and compasses and 6th place for the flag they made for their den! This was pretty good considering there were probably 75 dens there!

Washington D.C. Trip

This past weekend Ed and I went to Washington D.C. to see Genesis/Phil Collins in concert. We dropped the kids off at my sister-in-laws house and off to the airport we went. We got to the Dulles airport around 2:30 where Peg picked us up and took us to our hotel. We went past the town house that we lived in almost 20 years ago. Shelley and Bob (aka Randy), Eds cousins from PA, showed up around 4:30 that afternoon. We sat outside in a gazebo for several hours, talking, laughing and waiting to meet Jay. Finally, Jay shows up around 10:30-11:00pm. Nice guy, but I am sure we scared him a little because we didnt see him again until the next evening! The next morning, Shelley, Randy, Ed and I headed into downtown Washington D.C. to see some sites. We walk all over the mall area and saw the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Capital building, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial and the WWII Memorial. I think we walked several miles that afternoon. We met Peg and Jay at a resturant, had dinner and then went to the concert. The concert was a little late getting started, Phil and band are older now and I guess they needed an afternoon nap first! But the concert was good and we had a good time. We got back to our hotel room around 1:00am. Sat and laughed some more and went to bed around 2am. Ed and I were up at 6:15am to catch our flight back to Atlanta. As we are getting off the airplane a voice behind us says, "Mr. and Mrs. Copenhaver, just keep walking" It turns out to be Pat, who just flew into Atlanta for meeting. We didnt get to visit long, but it was nice to see him. Ed and I are exhausted, but had a great time! Can't wait for the next one!!! The pictures are: Ed and Randy solving the worlds problems on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, us finally meeting Jay, Ed and I in front of the Washington Monument, and Shelley, probably laughing at one of the many funny stories Ed was telling!

Happy Birthday Ed and Ethel!

Today, September 21, is Ethel, our cocker spaniels birthday. She is 6 years old. On Sunday, Septmeber 23, it will be Ed's 42nd birthday. I have posted a picture of them together because any one who knows our family knows that if Ed is around, you will always see Ethel with him. So, Happy Birthday to each of them! We are celebrating Eds birthday tonight because tomorrow morning Ed and I are flying to VA to see Phil Collins/Genesis in concert on Sunday evening. I will post pictures of that when we get back home.

Happy Birthday Pat!

Happy Birthday to my little brother, Pat! Tomorrow, September 15th is his 38th birthday. It will be your first birthday as a Daddy! I can still remember the day your were born, not much of it, but I do remember some. I remember going with Dad to IC school to tell Dave that you had been born. I don't remember much else. Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful birthday and many, many more to come!

Webelos has begun

Eddies boy scout meetings have started. He had his first meeting last night. Over the summer he went to day camp and learned lots of new things and made lots of things too. At his first meeting he made a scrap book page of all the things he did in day camp to add to his scrap book. He loves boy scouts! Eddie and I will be camping the end of September in the Webelo Woods campout. Only one parent is allowed to go with the scout. Since they wont let us bring the camper, I was the one volunteered to go and sleep in the tent! But thats okay, I will take camping any way I can get it, Eddie too!

Induction Ceremony

Kaila was inducted into the National Beta Club tonight at her high school. There was not alot of opportunity for pictures, since they did the induction as a group. I did take some when we got home and then we had ice cream.

National Beta Club

Kaila got an invitation today to join the National Beta Club at her school! This club is open to students in 10th-12th grades who have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher. The induction ceremony is next Tuesday, September 11. Needless to say we are very proud of her! Not sure why the date on the letter is August of 2005. Kaila said the teacher must have had a typo. But she got the letter today, not in August. Should I be worried about this teacher sponsering the Beta Club students?!?!?!?!?
